Year One Down

Led by CDR Brian Melvin, USCG (Ret.), Coast Guard Hockey finished its first year in the Maryland Heroes Hockey League with a 13-7-0 record, two points behind the first place DC Fire Dept. The team made it within one win of the Championship game, falling to the Montgomery County (MD) FD Hooligans in the semi-finals.

The MHHL is the only public safety hockey league in the DC/MD region and the largest police/fire league on the US East Coast, not including the FDNY in house-league. What began in 2017 has now grown to 10 teams, with players from almost every public safety agency in the DC and Maryland region.

The league plays its regular season at The Gardens Ice House in Laurel, MD every Friday between Labor Day and April, with the season wrapping up just around the annual DC Firefighters Tournament in the spring. Each year, the Heroes Cup Final between the two championship contenders offers fans the opportunity to see the league first hand and help raise funds for charity, as proceeds from the event are donated to different cause each year.
